The Longwood Institute Hall

A hub for connection and celebration; the Hall operates as a venue where community and friends gather for social events, formal occasions and support during catastrophes such as bush fires.
The local community have been exceptional at supporting the hall particularly after it was vandalised in 2017.
History
From 1886 onwards the Longwood region south of Aldgate was offered as Working Men’s Blocks, enabling people who had employment elsewhere to supplement their income by running a small farm.
The new residents, called “Blockers”, built the Longwood Institute in 1903. It served as a meeting hall and place of learning and entertainment for a wide area. It has been a vibrant part of the local community and is a much-loved heritage building.
The double open fireplaces are a special feature of the building.
